Why I Started a Business From Home as a Mom of 3 Very Busy Girls

As a mom of three very busy girls, my journey to starting a business from home wasn’t an overnight decision. It came from the desire to be there for my daughters while still contributing to my family in a meaningful way. I’ve always been a person who wants to make my own money, feel fulfilled, and know that I’m doing something outside of just being a mom. But I also wanted the freedom to do it all—to attend my girls’ events, help with schoolwork, and enjoy those small moments that can easily slip by if you’re working outside the home.

The Turning Point: A Desire for Freedom

The turning point for me was realizing that I could have it all—without having to choose between being a present mom and contributing to my family’s income. Staying home with my girls was the best decision I made, but I also wanted to feel like I was making an impact outside of the house. I knew that in order to stay fulfilled, I needed something more than just the day-to-day routine of motherhood. Starting a business from home seemed like the perfect solution.

The Challenges of Balancing Work and Family

When my girls were younger, balancing business and motherhood was a constant juggle. I often had to squeeze in work during nap times or after they went to bed. Those late-night hours were a challenge, but I knew that if I wanted to make this work, I had to find time, even if it meant staying up later than I’d like.

As they grew older, the balance didn’t get easier, but it did become more manageable. Learning to work around their schedules became part of my routine, and I quickly realized that I had to adapt my strategies to make things work for both me and my family.

How I Learned to Work Smarter, Not Harder

Over the years, I’ve learned that working smarter, not harder, is key to running a successful business—especially when you’re juggling multiple roles. One of the most game-changing strategies for me has been repurposing content and batching.

Repurposing content means that I can take one piece of work—whether it’s a blog post, a video, or an Instagram post—and turn it into multiple pieces of content for different platforms. This saves me time and helps me get more mileage out of the work I’ve already done.

Batching content has also been a huge time-saver. Instead of writing one post at a time, I set aside dedicated time to plan and create multiple pieces of content. This has allowed me to stay ahead of my schedule, ensuring I always have something ready to post, even on busy days.

I’ve also learned how to organize my tasks in a way that allows me to manage all the things I’m doing. I run two businesses and have a design sales job, so being able to prioritize and focus on specific tasks during certain times of the day is crucial.

The Rewards of Working From Home

The rewards of working from home have been beyond worth it. I now have the freedom to attend my girls’ activities, help with homework, and enjoy family moments without feeling guilty about missing out on work. I can contribute financially to my family while still being present in their lives.

But beyond the freedom, there’s also a sense of fulfillment that comes from doing something I’m passionate about. I get to help others, grow my businesses, and work with like-minded people—all while doing it from the comfort of my home.

Final Thoughts

Starting a business from home as a mom of three very busy girls has been one of the most rewarding decisions I’ve made. Yes, it’s been challenging at times, but the flexibility, freedom, and sense of purpose I’ve gained are worth every ounce of effort. If you’re a mom looking to do something for yourself and build a business, know that it’s possible to have it all. It takes patience, dedication, and smart strategies like repurposing and batching content, but you can create a life that works for both you and your family.
